Marketing Designer

Help Scout - permanent

United States

29 Nov

Open to all applicants globally!

Role:

Well hello! You’ve finally found us.

We’re Help Scout. Maybe you haven’t heard of us before, and that’s okay. Or maybe you’ve heard the name, but you don’t remember why. Either way, you’ve landed on this page because you were at least a little curious, and we like that about you.

We’re looking for someone who’s super thoughtful, intentional, humble, meticulous, and weird, and self-motivated, and funny, and tenacious, and super creative, and did I say self-motivated? That’s because we’re a remote company! Being a remote contributor is incredibly empowering and rewarding for the right kind of person. It’s perfect if you don’t love wearing pants, or enjoy going out for ice cream in the middle of the day because it was nice outside and you just kinda felt like it. It’s the best for people who feel more like inventors than pixel-pushers — people who can carry their work and own their craft.

Designers here do a lot of things, but to summarize, we are shepherds of the brand. Everything customer-facing passes through the design team in some way. You’ll be making things that are seen and used by several hundred thousand people every month, and it’s your job to ensure that every moment — no matter how big or small — feels, looks, and sounds like Help Scout.

About the role

    • You'll be part of our 6-person design team, and you’ll report to Linda. Each designer on the team brings a unique set of skills to the table, and we try to make each other better every day.
    • You’ll be working on our website, which sees just over 400k unique visitors every month. In addition to designing for the site, you’ll play a huge part in building our brand through several other initiatives. Maybe some video, social experimentation, weird photo shoots, whatever you think is the best solution for the task at hand!
    • You’ll raise our collective creative bar and support your teammates by offering ideas and feedback on their work. You can count on them to do the same for you.
    • You’re fiercely independent and can drive your own creative process.
    • You'll be working in a design-led company, with people that give you the time to do excellent work. But we also hold you to high standards, which means you must be incredibly persistent, open to feedback/debate and always willing to experiment with new ideas.

Some of the work you may find yourself doing on a typical day includes:

    • Partnering with the marketing team to creatively and strategically contribute to the direction of marketing projects.
    • Finding new and subtle ways to inject the brand into our marketing efforts — like creating a hidden Easter egg on a landing page, or developing a series of weird GIFs for social.
    • Designing a new landing page for a feature, or improving an existing one based on data we collected.
    • Creating assets for a campaign -- we do all sorts of campaigns: weird ones, serious product stuff, and everything in between.
    • The usual odds ‘n’ ends tasks like designing a branded Keynote template for people in the company to use, or maybe some title screens for a video. Who knows! Every day is an adventure and this role will cover everything from event microsites to infographics to case studies, swag, social media stuff, sales sheets, and everything in between!
    • Brainstorming with the brand team about upcoming events and identifying brand opportunities.

Experience:

  • You’re an amazing Visual Designer and you don’t have to code your own work. (We have people who can help with that!)
  • You aren’t afraid to try new things. As a matter of fact, it’s part of your DNA and you get bored as hell when you don’t feel like you’re growing or learning.
  • You are an all-around creative person, but you have a Thing you are particularly good at, or keen on. There are no wrong answers as to what that Thing is.
  • You understand that “Marketing” can be a dirty word for a designer, yet you find extreme joy in bringing a unique, creative point of view to everyday design challenges.
  • You have a great sense of humor and don’t take yourself too seriously.
  • You are a great communicator. You have no trouble keeping your teammates in the loop and getting work done in the time allotted for it.
  • You like to work on print projects as well as pixel projects. You can design anything from websites to live event materials with a keen eye for the smallest details and the big picture.
