Remote since 2017
I first started working remotely at the beginning of 2017.
Before I started working remotely, I worked in an office at an early stage SaaS startup.
I'm the Head of Marketing at Northpass.
There are some things you have to get used to when you work remotely. The biggest transition for me was probably communicating with my team. When you're in an office, you can swing by someone in a couple of steps to ask them a question. When you work remotely, you can't do that. You can to determine what the best medium is for communicating your thought to a co-worker (Slack, voice call, video call, etc.)
A typical day for me looks like:
4:45 am - 6:00 am: Play basketball and workout
6:00 am - 7:00 am: Get ready for the work day
7:00 am - 12:00 pm: Work
12:00 - 1:00: Walk the dogs and make lunch
1:00 - 5:00: Work
I enjoy being able to go to new places and see new things. Since I can work from anywhere, I don't have to wait for vacations to travel. I experience everything that a new city has to offer while working from there. It's something I wish everyone could do!
This next year, I'm really looking forward to a new podcast we started at Northpass called Beyond L&D. The Beyond L&D Podcast /Video Series discusses how modern teams use enterprise learning to drive business performance. It features industry leaders and management experts from various industries.
I would just tell people to do their research. People can do anything they want with their work life, and whatever they want - chances are it's been done before. Just find the people who have done it and talk to them, see what they had to do to get there, and see if they can mentor you to do the same.
Just the remote jobs you want sent straight to your inbox weekly.
